‘Gentle posing’ for natural wedding photography by Anna Beth Photography, a Huddersfield based wedding photographer.
Last Saturday was Michelle and Alex’s wedding down in sunny Shropshire. Although I’m a wedding photographer based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, I love to travel and really enjoyed spending the weekend down in Ludlow with second shooter Alicia Yarrish who flew all the way from Germany to assist. Alicia is an expert on posing so it was great to have her shooting with me as I learnt a great deal from her!
Now the bride Michelle wanted her day photographing naturally in a documentary style, however was keen to get some bridal portraits and some group photographs where she had the opportunity to be photographed when she was completely aware. She expressed a slight concern that she could “pull some funny faces” when she didn’t know she was being photographed. Now this is true for us all haha but I assured her I was very skilled at waiting for the ‘right’ moment to press the shutter. However because of her worry with this, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to also create some mini ‘photo shoot’ moments throughout the day where she could take a little time to be photographed using the approach of ‘gentle posing’. This is basically me giving direction but not completely forcing the pose resulting in it looking really cheesey!
Anyway, here just a few examples of photographs from the day which are a result of this ‘gentle posing’ approach. As my background is in Fashion Photography I am ALWAYS up for these little ‘photo shoot moments’ during the wedding day!
